Learn French with BBC – Ma France

If you are looking for some of the best resources to work on your French fluency then learn along with BBC through Ma France.

The British broadcasting system needs no introduction; it is known for its quality information to educate and entertain people. It feeds our brain with a variety of topics from science to entertainment to almost anything under the sun.

What is Ma France?

Ma France is a free online French course curated by the BBC languages. It is an interesting and fascinating course for beginners to improve their spoken French.

It provides 24 interactive French videos revolving around various topics like sports, language, holidays, and much more along with the grammar and vocabulary lessons related to it. It also includes worksheets and conducts quiz to analyze our level.

The videos are presented by Stéphane Cornicard who keeps them simple and authentic. At the beginning of each video, he shares useful words and phrases focusing on the topic.

All the contents are explained in both French and English which benefits the learners to get better clarity about each topic.

What does it offer?

Ma France provides the 24 lessons under 4 units. It is clubbed together into 6 topics under each unit. All the topics revolve around our daily routine and basic necessities to survive in a new place.

The first unit covers topics like directions, work, arrangements, and shopping. The second unit goes a little further and talks about sports, food, kids, pets, and buying a house.

The third unit goes all the way from exploring the French cuisine to buying the right medicines at the pharmacy. It also talks about holidays and B& B.

The final topic explores dating life, hotel requests, football, and DIY.  Overall, we can see that it covers the essentials and helps us to have a glance at the French lifestyle.

Additionally, we also have a section called extra topics that extends our knowledge about France. It also provides links to keep ourselves updated with the present views and perspectives on the same.

It assists the teachers to help their students to get the most out of these French lessons and provides worksheets to utilize in classrooms. It also has a glossary section to brush up on all the new vocabulary you learned.

You can also make use of the games and quiz that follow each topic. However, they are restricted to certain regions.

Besides that, enjoy the various benefits and learn French in the simplest and easiest way possible.

What makes it different from other resources?

Ma France comes with an unlimited list of boons and the only problem will be to figure out where to start. So, what aspects of this course are really useful for beginners?

1. Short and crisp videos

As beginners, the biggest challenge is to understand the context of the French videos or audios. Why is that so?

Spoken French and written French are different which makes it a bit difficult for us to identify the words from the pronunciation of the native speakers. However, the videos in Ma France are everything that you can ask for.

With Ma France, you can listen to videos that are slow and comprehensible. Moreover, the videos are short and last for only about 10 to 11 minutes. Even if you stumble upon some new expressions or words, the presenter of the show, Stéphane explains it and makes your job easy.

2. Availability of subtitles and transcripts

A lot of videos that we come across don’t provide the right subtitles with a few exceptions.

There are few sentences in French where word-to-word translations don’t apply. There is a unique way of framing certain sentences. Therefore, the lack of subtitles becomes a barrier to identify those phrases.

Nevertheless, this course provides both English and French subtitles for all 24 videos. In certain cases, if you are unable to access the French subtitles you can download the French transcripts from their site.

3. Exposure to new vocabularies, expressions, and grammar concepts

With each new topic, you will discover many new expressions and words. You will learn to ask simple questions and find their corresponding answers.

The presenter explains all the new vocabularies and phrases that revolve around that particular topic at the beginning of each video. This provides an overall view of the lesson beforehand. Moreover, you can also download the vocabulary sheets for each video.

At the end of every topic, we have the grammar concepts associated with the expressions that we learn. This helps you with conjugations and sentence formation to build your conversations.

Step up your game with Ma France

This show eliminates almost every single problem that we face while listening to French audios or videos which makes it a very useful tool to hit our French goals in no time. It’s time to sink into the lessons and step up your French game.

Although BBC languages are no longer being maintained its useful lessons on different languages continue to help many language learners till today.
