 Paul Noble’s Method

Despite being a language learner, Paul Noble found grammar more daunting than helping. Eventually, he found a way to avoid grammar and learn French the natural way.

His method is different from traditional language-learning courses because it doesn’t use grammar tests or memory drills. With Paul Noble, you learn French the easy, almost passive way, without pencils and books.

As he struggled to learn languages, Paul Noble came into thinking that the way we learn languages shouldn’t be obsessed with grammar rules. The purpose of grammar is to remove the difficulties of a language, and not be a troublesome subject on its own.

“Grammar is the art of lifting the difficulties out of a language; the lever must not be heavier than the burden.”

Communication is the ultimate goal of learning languages, and he made his course oriented towards pragmatic goals. He has an extraordinary ability to predict problems people have and provide simple solutions.

Since then, he has focused exclusively on Eastern Asian languages, creating both print and digital textbooks in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean schools.

Paul Noble’s French Course

He frequently asks students how would they express themselves in French, after giving them a couple of instructions. His focus remains the ability to participate in a real-life conversation, and therefore learn only the really possible scenarios.

He inverted the order of the learned content, so perhaps you won’t learn how many brothers or sisters you have right at the start, but you’ll learn how to make arrangements and set a meeting with somebody. He sets as a primary goal, the ability to engage with people.

In his audio courses, he uses exactly the same methodology as in his 1-1 private lessons. He asks questions, gives you a moment to reply, or at least to get your brain working, and then finally replies to the same question.

Many people have experienced huge success after listening to Paul Noble’s French language learning method for 12 hours: 38 minutes.

His audio courses are similar to authentic 1-1 lessons. He gives you input and immediately starts having a conversation with you. Paul dedicates approximately 1 hour at the end of the audiobook to rapidly review all the concepts presented during the course, therefore, by the end of the audiobook, you should be confident about being familiar with the information presented.

What makes Paul Noble French Course Different?

One of the main factors separating Paul Noble’s courses is the focus on functional communication. Paul Noble developed an effective method of steady and almost passive language learning.

You don’t need to put much effort into learning words and phrases. After repeated use, the process will likely become automatic. The teacher gradually improves the learner’s ability to construct sentences in a foreign language.  He provides enough input to challenge learners to form their own sentences right away.

The audio consists of many questions asked by Paul Noble, with enough time to think on your own, before getting the correct answer. This method simulates live classes and puts your brain into a state of thinking.

The Paul Noble Language Institute

He founded a private language college where he could test his ideas and develop courses.

Eventually, he started collaborating with Harper Collins and published a range of courses that aimed to develop a full conversational ability in either French, Spanish, Italian, or German.

This was the all-audio, Learn with Paul Noble range of courses.

Advantages of Paul Noble Course

Paul Noble’s courses turned out to be a good way to review the basics and practice producing simple sentences.

In a matter of days, you can learn a wide variety of vocabulary and be able to use it in everyday situations. As you progress through the course, you will be assisted by a native French speaker to perfect your pronunciation.

Due to the success of these original courses, in 2013, the Destination range was released as a 150-minute audio course designed to prepare holidaymakers for their vacation travels.

The Destination language courses are written in Italian, French, and Spanish by language coach Paul Noble. Many said to have learned useful key phrases when traveling, and that the book allowed them to feel confident enough during the trip.

Another cool thing is that Paul Noble has very simple solutions for some complicated French grammar rules.

On the other hand, some French learners underlined that the book wasn’t really for learning, but more for renewing the French language.

Is it For You?

The question you should ask yourself is this the French course for you? Paul Noble’s French course would be most helpful if you are an additive learner who enjoys podcasts and YouTube videos. If you are a more visual type, who needs books, notebooks, and visual content to learn, then you can integrate his audio course, but not use it as a primary source of learning.
